Shamier Little

2 x World Championships medalist

Shamier was born on the 20th March 1995 in Louisville, Kentucky.  Her parents were athletic, her Dad was a football cornerback and her Mum played basketball and high jumped for Eastern Kentucky University.  Shamier first started running track when she was eight years old as a member of the University of Chicago Track Club and later the Country Club Hills Gazelles.  Shamier's athletic potential developed at the Robert Lindblom Math & Scheme Academy in Chicago where in 2011 she won the AAU Junior Olympics in the 400mH.  In 2012 she won the USATF Junior Championships in the 400mH and qualified to represent USA in the IAAF World Junior T&F Championships in Barcelona where she fell at the final hurdle while in a medal position.

After high school Shamier went to Texas A&M University and was immediately successful winning the 2014 NCAA 400mH title.  She went on to win the USATF Junior 400mH title and the IAAF World Junior Championships 400mH title in Eugene.  In 2015 she defended her NCAA title, won the USATF Championships 400m, won the Pan-Am Games gold in Toronto and took silver at the IAAF World T&F Championships in Beijing.  She completed the NCAA triple in 2016 before announcing that she would turn professional and run for adidas.  She ended her 2016 season with her her first Diamond League victory at the famous Weltklasse Zurich.

In 2017 Shamier was a semi-finalist at the World Championships in London and placed Top 3 at the Diamond League meets in London, Eugene and Monaco.  She won the 2018 NACAC 400mH title, the USATF 400mH title, won the Diamond League meetings in Lausanne and London and was on the podium at the Continental Cup, Zurich DL and Oslo DL.  Shamier maintained her place as one of the top 400mH runners in the world in 2019 again winning at the Lausanne DL and placing Top 3 in Zurich, Oslo and Rome.

She raced sparingly in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic but came back strongly in 2021 with a string of runner-up finishes in Zurich, Gateshead, Lausanne, Stockholm and Eugene.  A third place finish at the USATF Champs put her back on the US team for the World Championships on home soil in Oregon where she finished 4th in a world record race.  Wins at the 2023 USATF Champs and Rabat DL set her up for the second World Championships 400mH silver medal of her career in Budapest.
